That title makes no sense by itself, so let me explain:
- Yes, “That Guy” and “The Rich Guy” are, in theory, people and..
- Yes, all budgets require people to create them, and
- Yes, all budgets require people to pass them.
That’s not what I’m talking about. What I’m talking about is goals and representation.. Lincoln didn’t talk about “of the money, by the money, for the money” nor did he talk about “of the things, by the things, for the things”.
CR or No CR, Budget or no budget, government or no government, the goal of what the folks in power should be doing is about people. As I understand it, the new CR or whatever it is has two major cuts, but not “cuts” per se, They are simply not fundings. (I don’t want any way to sneak out with word tricks — aka B.S. — to avoid what I’m saying)
Whatever you want to call them, they are wrong because the aim is to save money, not people.
The first is to defund/cut all money from the Veteran’s administration’s Burn Pit Relief. If this money is not in the bill, people will die, and part of others’ spirit will too. Last year, you may remember, Jon Stewart and veterans rallied because they had been promised this money and it was cut through technical means which means it wasn’t going to be there for veterans, even though it had been promised. There was hell to pay on Capitol Hill because veterans held protests over the broken promises — and they won.
All the people affected by those burn pits, which they could have avoided simply by not serving their country were being hurt. They fought, they won, and now the government wants to sneakily not give them their benefits. Why? Because they want to save money — for themselves.
To take away those benefits with the stroke of a pen says that none of the things they did as soldiers had any importance at all. Even those not directly impacted by burn pits will feel that.
The other part of non-funding, is — in this round — cuts to the Department of Education. We know that education is important to empower people. The Rich Guy and That Other Guy don’t want to empower people. They want money, again, for themselves. Remember the phrase “Like taking candy from a baby”? It wasn”t supposed to be a good thing, and yet here they are. That is literally what they’re doing! Can there be anything more immoral than that? They are stealing from kids to make money!
This is budgeting without people’s interest in mind.
To Democrats and Replicans, that cannot happen! If you vote for this mess, you will be primaried when your time comes, either now or later. You will lose your seat. Even if you keep your job, You will lose any power you had in democracy, and you will have lost your power for no reason other than your choices.
I — and millions of others — will not grieve with you, or for you, because you did this to yourself and you hurt people in the process for no reason than someone’s greed.
It’s still your choice, but now you know which ones many people want you to make.
Good Luck with all of that.
Resisting With Peace,
John
