Resistance Is Necessary

Saving What’s Important

Just Wanted To Pontificate A Bit

There is no particular reason I’m writing this. I just want to think about what the world should be like as we enter a new year and put it out there.

People need to eat. They need to eat whether or not they work, whether or not they’re old enough to feed themselves, whether they are too old to feed themselves, and certainly if they work forty hours per week. This should be non-negotiable in a civil society.

People need to have a place to live, a place where they can be warm in winter, and cool in the summer. This also should be non-negotiable in a civil society.

People need to be cared for – mentally, physically, spiritually — at times. Things happen in life and things get broken. People should be able to get that care. This, too, should be non-negotiable in a civil society.

Here’s a thing that American doesn’t “get”. It doesn’t matter if those things exist if you can’t afford them.

This is how I know our economic system is broken.

We need to fix it.

It doesn’t matter if they exist but you don’t or can’t know about it.

This is we need an educational system.

It doesn’t matter if they exist if who you are or what you look like won’t allow you to get them.

This is why racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and ableism are a problem.

Unless your leadership addresses those issues, don’t bother me with your politics.

If your “plan” is to make more poverty, less food, less housing, less education, it is not a plan to govern. It is a plan to hurt people. That is not acceptable.

Leadership, real leadership, never tries to hurt people, and if it does so accidentally, it fixes it.

With all that said, Welcome 2025!

Resisting With Peace,

John,
